While by no means an exhaustive tour of SP2, you can see immediately:
- how portals generate and consume trains
- how the passenger side works
- how some passenger rolling stock is animated
- how the AI drives and behaves
- new commands like Drive Via Trackmark and Run Around Train
Some notes about the map/session:
- Drivers get the pip waiting at red signals. There is significant waiting at some parts of the line and you may see
two or three drivers with red exclamation marks. Leave them alone, they will go as soon as the opposing train clears.
- The session starts with five trains and a new one is spawned every seven minutes. This is enough to keep it busy without
overload. If there are too many AI trains competing for track and resources, the whole operation gets ugly. On this map
I hit that stage with about 18 trains after deliberately causing some traffic jams at the two hour mark.
- Use the driver selection bar on the left of the screen to flip between trains. This session doesn't have a
player-controlled train so just cruise around and enjoy the scenery and interaction with other traffic.
You will soon see where the critical parts of the map are, and where trains are likely to be held waiting for
others to clear the single lines.
- One part of the map has artificially high speed limits. This is to minimise the amount of time trains spend on
that single line stretch. Often they will proceed on a yellow and at the default speed limit of 45mph crawled the
entire way at around 20mph. The high speed limit gives acceptable transit times.
