Description:
Since 1984, based on General Electric's C36-7, ND5 diesel locomotives were manufactured and shipped from US to China.
At that time China's engines were generally lagging behind, ND5 providing reliable traction for China's surging freight demand. This content is created based on look of first batch of ND5; based on feedback from China, in 1986 the second batch has lowered nose, greater windows, set console in front to driver, and painted dark green with yellow strips.
ND5 was assigned to Nanjing East Depot, Hefei Depot, Fuyang Depot, Jinan West Depot, Sujiatun Depot and Dalian Depot, for mainly cargo transportation but often used in passenger transport due to excellent performence.
After more than 30 years of service, ND5 was replaced by advanced new diesel and electric locomotives, almost all these 422 excellent locomotives have been retird. Only can meet a few of them in museums from now.
